All About Honey Bees presentation at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Join Carolyn Treffinger at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Tuesday, November 20th at 6:30 pm for a presentation about honey bees. Honey bees are a crucial component in the food chain in America. Estimates are that as many as 1 in 3 bites of food depend on honey bees. Treffinger will discuss the history of honey bees and explain their importance in food production in America.

Dr. Daniel Caton from the Physics and Astronomy department at Appalachian State University will be at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library to present a program on the Brown Mountain Lights on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 7:00 pm. The program will focus on scientific explanations, but will also explore the history, myths and supernatural explanations surrounding the Brown Mountain Lights phenomenon.

Author and Hiker Jennifer Pharr Davis at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Jennifer Pharr Davis will be at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 6:30 p.m.  Davis is a hiker, author, speaker, and National Geographic Adventurer of the Year who has covered over 14,000 miles of long distance trails on six different continents.  Davis will talk about her latest book released in April 2018.  Her new book, Pursuit of Endurance: Harnessing the Record-Breaking Power of Strength and Resilience, focuses on unlocking the secret to maximizing perseverance both on and off the trail.  Davis’ program will end with audience questions and a book signing.  Books will be available for purchase.

Pajama Party Storytime at the Ridgeview Branch Library

Children and their families are invited to the Ridgeview Library on Thursday, November 8 at 7 pm for a pajama party! Make sure you put on your pajamas, comfy slippers, and bring your blanket to the library for an evening of stories, songs, and fun. After storytime, we’ll stuff a new cuddly animal friend, make a wish on a star, and name your new friend. After you bring your new friend to life you can decorate their pajamas before heading home to bed. This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required due to limited supplies. Introduction to Yoga at the Ridgeview Branch Library

Join yoga instructor, Jay Johnson from Yoga with an Edge at the Ridgeview Branch each Tuesday in November at 11 am. Jay will offer an introduction to yoga with slow, detailed instructions appropriate for all ages and abilities. No prior experience is necessary to join the class. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat.

Creepy Critters at the Ridgeview Branch Library

Bring the family to the Ridgeview Library on Saturday, November 17 at 2 pm to find out more about the “creepy” side of the animal world! A representative from the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation will have examples of snakes, bats, owls, spiders, insects and other creepy critters (some living examples!). We will look at the positive side of these animals and see that even though an animal may be perceived as creepy it is still important to an ecosystem.
