Movie Night at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Patrick Beaver Memorial Library will host a movie night on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.  An episode of the documentary Shakespeare Uncovered: The Stories Behind the Bard’s Greatest Plays, Series 1 will be shown.  Each episode from this series explores the stories behind the different plays by Shakespeare and covers how they came to be written, how they have been performed, and how they have survived for over 400 years.

Tai Chi Classes at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Winter 2019 sessions of Easy Tai Chi classes will be offered at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Monday evenings at 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. on January 28, February 4, 11, 18, and 25.  This low-impact exercise takes you through a series of martial arts motions designed to improve flexibility, balance and muscle retention and reduce stress for better health and well-being.

Enviro-Shred Offers Free Shredding at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

For the sixth straight year, Hickory based shredding company Enviro-Shred will offer free shredding service at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  Individuals will have the opportunity to shred at no charge up to two boxes or bags of personal documents in Patrick Beaver Memorial Library’s parking lot.

Finger Knitting Workshop at the Ridgeview Branch Library

Teens and their families are invited to the Ridgeview Library on Thursday, January 31, beginning at 6 pm for an introduction into finger knitting! Participants will be lead step-by-step through the process of knitting with their fingers. After an introduction, participants will be able to start their own scarf. Please plan bring yarn in your favorite color for this project. If you aren’t able to bring your own, some yarn will be available but will be first come, first served.

Houseplants Workshop at the Ridgeview Branch Library

Interested in learning how to bring the outdoors inside? Join Anelle Ammons, Agriculture and Natural Resource Agent from Cooperative Extension to learn about houseplants. She will host a workshop on Thursday, January 24 beginning at 6 pm at the Ridgeview Branch Library. Anelle Ammons will teach participants helpful tips and tricks for keeping your houseplants healthy and beautiful. This workshop will help you pick plants that will grow best in your home and give you the knowledge to keep them growing strong.

Craft Club at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Join fellow crafters at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Mondays at 6:00 p.m. and become a part of our Craft Club.  Everyone interested is welcome to join us for this general crafting club in the upstairs conference room.  Bring your latest beading, scrapbooking, or other crafty work-in-progress such as needlecraft projects to this informal group for all skill levels.  Anyone not currently working on a craft project is also welcome to join us and enjoy coloring with supplies provided by the library.

Pruning, Planting, and Management for Trees and Shrubs Presentation at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Join Dr. George Place, Catawba County Cooperative Extension Director, at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. for the initial presentation in the 2019 Advanced Gardener Series.  This presentation will focus on pruning, planting, and managing trees and shrubs.  From hydrangeas to blueberries, appropriate management is something that everyone can do to improve the health of their landscape and fruit producing plants.

Introduction to Bridge Class to be presented at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

An Introduction to Bridge Class will be offered at the Patrick Beaver Library on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 9:30 am to 3 pm.  Those interested in learning how to play party bridge or duplicate bridge are encouraged to attend this beginner class.  This session will focus on the basics of bridge and learning to play in no trump and in a trump suit.
