CDBG Annual Action Plan

The City of Hickory has prepared a draft of its 2018 Annual Action Plan for the Community Development Block Grant Program, which is available for review here.  A public hearing will be held during the Hickory City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 19, at 7:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers.

City of Hickory prepares to expand the Oakwood National Register Historic District

The City of Hickory’s Historic Preservation Commission has been awarded a state grant to expand the Oakwood National Register Historic District.  After completing a citywide architectural survey of historic properties in September 2015, additional portions of the Oakwood neighborhood were identified as being eligible for historic designation on the National Register of Historic Places.

Hickory’s on the rise: Ranks No. 3 “biggest gainer” in new economic growth study

Hickory’s economy is rapidly growing, according to a new study cited by USA TODAY.

Hickory, N.C. is ranked the No. 3 “biggest gainer” of 2017, after rising 64 places to No. 103 on Milken Institute’s list of Best-Performing Cities in America.  Milken Institute’s annual report analyzes economic trends and dynamics shaping American cities and highlights the factors driving innovation and growth across the nation.

Now accepting applications for non-profit CDBG funds

The City of Hickory is now accepting applications for non-profit Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.  The funds are used for grants for public services programs that benefit low and moderate income people in the City of Hickory in support of its housing and community development goals.  Applications are available online and must be submitted and received in the Community Development Department by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 16.  For more information, please contact Dave Leonetti in the Community Development Division at (828) 323-7414.

The City of Hickory was a recipient of the 2017 Marvin Collins Outstanding Planning Award in the Implementation/Large Community category in recognition of the Inspiring Spaces Plan.

Hickory Regional Planning Commission to hold public input meeting

The Hickory Regional Planning Commission will hold a public drop-in meeting on Wednesday, March 22 at 6 p.m. at City Hall in City Council Chambers. During the meeting, the public will review a draft revision of the Hickory by Choice 2030 plan, which is the city’s long-range development plan.
