Ridgeview Branch Library Community Input Meeting

Hickory Public Library invites members of the Ridgeview community to a public input meeting at the Ridgeview Branch Library on Thursday, June 6, at 6 p.m.  Marty Beal of CBSA Architects will present a draft report of the space needs assessment for the Ridgeview Branch Library.  Community members will then be asked to give feedback on the draft report and recommend changes for the final report.

2019 Human Relations Award Winners

The City of Hickory Community Relations Council (CRC) recognized the winners of its annual Human Relations Awards with a reception and ceremony on Wednesday, May 22, at the Highland Recreation Center.  The three winners selected were Jordan Makant, Teena Willis, and the Hickory Community Theatre.

Three Receive Advanced Firefighter Certification

Three Hickory firefighters have received the designation of Advanced Firefighter through the NC State Firefighter’s Association.  Firefighters Nathan Church, Shane Stewart, and Pete Suthers were recently awarded this prestigious award.  The State Firefighter’s Association reported that only one percent of the over 50,000 firefighters across the entire state have applied for and received this designation.

Easy Tai Chi Classes at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Easy Tai Chi classes will be offered at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Monday evenings from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. on June 3, 10, 17, 24, and July 1.  This low-impact exercise takes you through a series of martial arts motions designed to improve flexibility, balance and muscle retention and reduce stress for better health and well-being.

Fire Department Presented Community Partnership Award

During graduation ceremonies, Catawba Valley Community College presented Hickory Fire Department with a Community Partnership Award.  The City of Hickory Fire Department has partnered with CVCC for many years in the development and delivery of fire, rescue, and emergency medical programs. Involvement spans from serving on the advisory committee for the Fire Protection Technology and Emergency Management degree programs to hosting fire and rescue certification classes.

Memorial Day office and facility closings, garbage pick-up still available

 

The City of Hickory will close its offices on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day, but garbage and recycling pick-up will continue on Monday.

Road Closure on 2nd Avenue SW

Beginning at approximately 7 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, a portion of Second Avenue SW, near Second Street SW, will be closed for Duke Energy to replace utility poles.  Detour routes will be established and clearly marked.  The closure is expected to be in place for one day.
