It is appropriate for those with some internet experience who would like to learn more.There will be plenty of time for practice in a relaxed atmosphere.

CRC's "Celebration of Relations" event and 2019 Human Relations Awards

The City of Hickory celebrates unity and diversity at the 2019 Human Relations Awards with the “Celebration of Relations” event.  Wednesday, May 22, the Community Relations Council (CRC) will hold the annual spring awards at Highland Recreation Center.  The event begins at 6:00 p.m.

Sails Original Music Series kicks off with Tunes in Trade Alley

The 2019 Sails Original Music Series returns to Downtown Hickory this Saturday, May 11, with an exciting new twist.  Come out to Trade Alley in the heart of Downtown Hickory for a little bit different Sails Music experience and an entire afternoon of original music.  Three bands will be featured at each Saturday event, with shows at 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.

City of Hickory to construct Old Lenoir Road multiuse trail

Old Lenoir Road is about to get a makeover, thanks to an $8.48 million grant from the Greater Hickory Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).  At its May 7 meeting, Hickory City Council unanimously approved an agreement with the NCDOT to receive the federal funds to construct a multiuse trail and make streetscape improvements along Old Lenoir Road.

Science Fiction Film Fest Begins at the Carolina Theater with Playtime

To celebrate A Universe of Stories as part of the Hickory Public Library’s Summer Learning Program, the Ridgeview Branch is presenting a Science Fiction Film Fest at the Carolina Theater in downtown Hickory. This series of free film screenings launches on Wednesday, May 15 at 7 pm with a showing of Playtime, Jacques Tati’s 1967 comedic masterpiece.

Hickory Public Library closed on May 10

Hickory Public Library, the Patrick Beaver Memorial main facility and the Ridgeview Branch, will be closed for staff training on Friday, May 10.  The library will re-open at its regular hours on Saturday, May 11.

Registration has begun for a jewelry making class for adults at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library.  The same class will be offered first at 9:00 a.m. and then again at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019.  Please sign up for only one of the classes offered on that day.

Beginning Image Editing Appointments Available at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Patrick Beaver Memorial Library is offering one-on-one sessions for those interested in learning the basics of image editing on May 20th, 1:00-4:00 PM. Topics to be covered include cropping photos, adjusting colors, resizing, image formats, file format conversion, and a basic overview of using MS Paint and GIMP for these tasks. Geared towards users with no graphical skills.

Internet Basics Class at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Are you curious about the internet and how to use it?  If so, come to the Internet Basics workshop at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Tuesday, May 14 at 6:30 pm.  Learn basic terminology, the parts of an internet window and techniques for finding information online.  This class is best suited for beginning computer users who are comfortable using a mouse and keyboard.  There will be plenty of time for practice in a relaxed atmosphere.
