Professional Speaker and Author Kerry Magro at the SALT Block

Professional speaker, best-selling author, movie consultant, and non-profit founder Kerry Magro will provide a program on Monday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m. entitled "Defining Autism: From Nonverbal to Professional Speaker" at the Drendel Auditorium on the SALT Block.  The partnering agencies sponsoring this program are the Hickory Public Library, the Hickory Community Theatre, and the Autistic Education Foundation.

First Friday with a Local Author at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

On Friday, March 1, 2019 at 12:00 p.m., the First Friday with a Local Author program will explore journalism writing with Eric Millsaps, editor of the Hickory Daily Record and regional editor for the NC Community papers in the BH Media group.  Millsaps will share his experiences as a writer of columns and editorials plus more, his path through the journalism field, and answer questions.

Detours continue along Main Avenue NE

Hickory Sand Company, Inc. will continue installing a new water main along Main Avenue NE.  This water and sewer replacement project is in preparation for the City Walk.  The next area to be closed is Main Avenue NE, from 2nd Street NE to 1st Avenue NE.  This closure is expected to begin on Thursday, February 21, and remain in place for approximately one week, depending upon weather conditions.  Detour routes will be established and clearly marked.

Titanic: Ship of Dreams program to be presented at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

On April 10, 1912, R.M.S. Titanic sailed away from Southhampton, England into legend. The ship struck an iceberg and sank on April 15, 1912, leading to the death of over 1500 people. On March 4, 2019 at 6:30 pm, Dr. Melinda Ratchford will give you a glimpse into the world of Titanic. Titanic’s passengers included some of the richest people in the world. She was one of the most luxurious and largest ships ever built. Ratchford will share stories about the building, launch and sinking of Titanic as well as introducing listeners to some of the passengers. Dr. Ratchford will also bring her extensive collection of Titanic memorabilia.

Cat in the Hat Party at the Hickory Public Library

In celebration of Read Across America Day, Dr. Seuss’ beloved characters are springing off the page and into the Hickory Public Library!  Don’t miss your chance to meet The Cat in the Hat (and some other crazy characters from the book) as they bring Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat to life in their own special, silly way.  This fun, interactive program features live actors, puppets, music, and audience participation!   Make sure to stick around after this fun, family program for photos and silliness during our exclusive Meet-and-Greet. Also, it wouldn’t be a party without a special birthday treat! What’s better than one party? Two! The Cat in the Hat will celebrate at the Ridgeview Branch on Friday, March 1 at 4 pm and again at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Saturday, March 2 at 2 pm.
