Schizophrenia: Psychosis and Antipsychotic Medications

Come to Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Wednesday April 17, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. for two sessions about schizophrenia, a serious mental disorder that causes people to interpret reality abnormally. VayaHealth’s Geriatric and Adult Mental Health Specialty Team will teach us about schizophrenia and antipsychotic medications. People with schizophrenia experience delusions, disordered thinking, hallucinations, and disorganized behavior. Negative symptoms include being unable to function and care for themselves, loss of interest in activities and inability to experience pleasure.  The symptoms can be disabling and lifelong treatment is required.

Downtown Construction Begins Next Week

Neill Grading and Construction, Inc., the firm hired by the City of Hickory, will officially begin Union Square renovations and streetscape improvements in Downtown Hickory next week.  However, downtown visitors may see activity and preparations for construction in the next few days.

Small Business Programs at the Ridgeview Branch Library

We have answers! Representatives from the City of Hickory will also be present to provide information and answer questions about the City’s Small Business Loan Program.

Hickory Public Library funds Imagination Library subscriptions for Hickory children

Hickory Public Library will provide $12,500 to the Catawba County Partnership for Children’s Imagination Library program.  This contribution will fund Imagination Library subscriptions for 500 children to ensure that all 1,200 enrolled children in the Hickory city limits can receive books in the mail.
