Firefighters Will Be Checking City Hydrants

During the next several months, firefighters will implement the annual hydrant inspection and maintenance program throughout the City of Hickory service area.  During this process, firefighters and public utilities personnel will be working very close to busy streets while actually flowing water from hydrants.

Movie Night at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Patrick Beaver Memorial Library will host a movie night on Monday, April 8, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in honor of National Autism Awareness Month.  The documentary Life, Animated, from Academy Award winning director Roger Ross Williams, will be shown.  Life, Animated is based on the bestselling book by Ron Suskind, Life, animated: a story of sidekicks, heroes, and autism.

City of Hickory to host annual Easter egg hunts

The Hickory Parks and Recreation Department will host its 32nd annual Children’s Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 13, at Henry Fork River Regional Recreation Park, located at 5655 Sweet Bay Lane. Citizens, ages 50 and better, are invited to participate in the Senior Easter Egg Hunt and Picnic on Thursday, April 18, at Westmont Senior Center.

First Friday with a Local Author at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

On Friday, April 5, 2019 at 12:00 p.m., the First Friday with a Local Author program will introduce us to Robert Canipe, the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of Redhawk Publications, the Catawba Valley Community College press.  Canipe will share his experiences and talk about a couple of their newest releases:  Polio, Pitchforks, and Perseverance about the 1944 Catawba County Polio outbreak and Newton: Then & Now photo history.

Home Buying Presentation at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Justin Shuffler with Fidelity Bank Mortgage will join Realtor, Tami Fox, for a one-hour informational session on buying your first home at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Tuesday, April 2nd at 6:00 pm. Justin will talk about the loan process and take some of the mystery out of the steps for getting a loan to buy a home.
