Seed Starting Workshop at the Ridgeview Branch Library

Now is the perfect time to learn how to start seeds indoors if you plan on planting a garden this Spring. Join Anelle Ammons, Agriculture and Natural Resource Agent from Cooperative Extension on Thursday, February 21 at 6 pm to learn about how to start seeds indoors. She will teach participants helpful tips and tricks for starting seeds and helping them grow into healthy plants that can be transplanted outside.

“Ask Me Your Computer Questions” Appointments Available at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Patrick Beaver Memorial Library is offering one-on-one sessions for those needing general information and assistance about using PC computers in “Ask Me Your Computer Questions” tutoring sessions. The sessions will take place on February 8th, 2019, 1:00-4:00 PM. Topics covered are based on participant’s needs and can include general Windows usage, installing programs, software choices, troubleshooting, and other questions related to general PC computer use.

Revised leaf collection schedule

The City of Hickory Solid Waste Division has faced several unusual obstacles this 2018 leaf season, including a Thanksgiving ice storm, Winter Storm Diego producing 14 inches of snow, residual snow covering the leaves, and days of heavy rain.  Due to these factors, curbside leaf collection has been delayed.

Purple Dreams Movie Night

The Hickory Community Relations Council (CRC), in partnership with the Hickory Youth Council (YC) and Footcandle Film Society, will host a movie night to screen the documentary, “Purple Dreams,” on Monday, February 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the Drendel Auditorium at the SALT Block.  This event is free and open to the public.

Detours to be expected along Main Avenue NW

Hickory Sand Company, Inc. will continue installing a new water main along Main Avenue NW, as part of the City Walk water and sewer replacement project for the City of Hickory.  Construction will necessitate the closure of Main Avenue NW, from 5th Street NW to 3rd Street NW, beginning January 23.

Hickory and Claremont enter into 20 year agreement for wastewater treatment services

At their January 14 and January 15 City Council meetings, Claremont and Hickory City Councils, respectively, approved a contract for the sale of wastewater treatment services for flow into the Hickory-Catawba Wastewater Treatment Facility.
