SUMMARY:Lightning Bug Boogie 5K
DESCRIPTION:The Hickory Parks\, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department will host the Lightning Bug Boogie 5K Trail Run on Friday\, Aug. 14\, at 9 p.m. at the Lake Hickory Trails.   \nThis course will consist of some portions of paved trail\, as well as off-road trails that include hills\, descents\, tight turns\, roots\, rocks\, and other trail-type features. All participants will be required to have a light in the form of a headlamp or flashlight. \nEarly registration is $30 until Aug. 3\, then the price increases to $35. Registration is open online at runsignup.com/Race/NC/Hickory/HickoryKSeries until Friday\, Aug. 14\, at 8:30 p.m. A custom t-shirt is included with all purchases prior to Aug. 3. \nAfter the race\, an awards ceremony will recognize the top three men and women in all age categories. Winners will receive a custom medal. \nRunners can pick up their bibs and event t-shirts on Thursday\, Aug. 13\, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Highland Recreation Center. Participants can also pick up their materials from 7-8:30 p.m. on the day of the race. \nThe Lightning Bug Boogie is the third race in a series of 5K races hosted by the City of Hickory. Runners can sign up for any or all races for a chance to win overall prizes. DESCRIPTION:The Hickory Police Department is partnering with the City of Hickory Parks\, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department to host the annual Back to School Bash on Saturday\, Aug. 22\, from 5-7 p.m. at Taft Broome Park. \nThe Back to School Bash provides students of all ages with free backpacks and school supplies to help them start the new school year with confidence. SUMMARY:Saturday Screenings: A Minecraft Movie
DESCRIPTION:Sit back\, relax\, and enjoy free movies this summer! Saturday Screenings take place at 8:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of July and August. \nThe film series will feature Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl on July 11\, A League of Their Own on July 25\, Inside Out on Aug. 8\, and A Minecraft Movie on Aug. 22. All movies are family-friendly with a PG or PG-13 rating. \nWeather permitting\, all outdoor screenings will be held at Union Square in downtown Hickory. \nConcessions and games will be available before each movie begins. Audience members are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs.
