Skateboard Lessons

This event has 2 separate sessions/dates available for registration. You may register for one or both sessions.

Saturday, 3rd & Saturday June 17th^th, 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM, Highland Recreation Center Skate Park , Registration Required, This event is a free event.

Learn to skateboard with an advanced instructor. This class is intended for beginners to learn board control, balance, and safety. No skateboard is required, we have ones you can use. This clinic will be a 2hr session, 9:30-11:30am. . Helmets are required, pads are not required or provided but highly recommended. 9:30-11:30am. 10yrs -15yrs old and parents need to sign a waiver before attending. Registration is required.

Double Digits Club /Homeschool Group

Welcome to Double Digits Club! 😊😊. This group is in place to help connect kids and families with others in similar age ranges who are looking to make friendships. It is intended to be an active group! 🏃‍♂️ Groups with little to no activity do not accomplish the goal of connecting kids and allowing for social time 😊. There are no criteria for joining other than having a child at least ten years of age, homeschooling, and a willingness to commit to activities! Nailed It! DIY Workshop

Join our Nailed It DIY expert, Gina Bumgarner for an evening of fun as we paint and assemble a DIY Halloween Countdown Chalk Board. (9″ x 7″) and a Treat Bag (13″ x 15″) Remember to choose your bag design. It will be $15 per project/group . This event will be at Stanford Park. Halloween Pet Parade & Costume Contest

It’s “Howl” o-ween! Bring your furry friends to the first Halloween Pet Parade & Costume Contest to Downtown Union Square! On Friday, October 28^th starting at 6:00 p.m. showcase your best costume during our parade and enter for a chance to win some cool prizes! The categories are scariest, funniest, most creative, cutest, and best matching dog and owner costume! For more information, contact Lisa Miller at ammiller@hickorync.gov or 828-261-2248. This is a FREE event.

Stormwater & You

The Stormwater & You program will focus on stormwater, water quality, and fun STEM-related activities for children. Activities are hands-on and aim to help promote healthy water habits, educate children about water, how it functions on the planet, and why it’s important to help conserve our natural resources. This program will be offered for free in partnership with WPCOG.

Community Drum Circle

The Hickory Music Factory, in partnership with the Hickory Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department will host a drum circle downtown at the Sails On the Square on Thursday, September 29, 7-8 PM. This is a free event program and all ages are welcome to attend. There is no registration for this event. There is a limited number of drums provided and you are encouraged to bring your own if you have one!

TEEN NIGHT AFTER HOURS

The Teen Night After Hours event program is from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and is designed to give teenagers ages 13-16 a fun-filled Friday night of activities in a safe environment at Highland Recreation Center (1451 8th St Dr. NE Hickory NC 28601) once it’s closed to the public. This engaging program will include games, a field trip, a movie night, and a glow-in-the-dark night! The price per night is $5 per participant.

Registration for Teen Night-After Hours is available online at https://hickory.activityreg.com/ and is limited to 20 participants. (Participants can register up to two days before the program start date)
