Celebrate the magic of the season at our Stained Glass Christmas Ornaments Workshop! Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a budding creator, this workshop welcomes all skill levels to immerse in the art of crafting beautiful stained glass Christmas ornaments.

If you are under 12 years of age, you must be accompanied with an adult that has paid for a project.

This workshop is designed to accommodate everyone, from beginners to experts. Tina Morgan of Morgan Custom Stained Glass in Monroe, NC will guide you through each step, ensuring a joyful and enriching experience.
Get into the holiday spirit as we play festive Christmas music, setting the perfect ambiance for a day of creative joy. And bring your most cherished Christmas cookies to share with fellow participants, adding a delightful taste of tradition to our gathering.

All essential art supplies for crafting your beautiful stained glass ornaments will be included. Remember to bring your own lunch to enjoy during the midday break. Snacks & water will be provided.

Join Jean McAnulty, a Catawba County Extension Certified Master Gardener and Bird enthusiast, for a leisurely hike to see and hear the many bird species migrating through Geitner Park and along the River Walk.

Intermediate Group Guitar Lessons

This class is for the advanced beginner or intermediate guitar player.  It will be taught by The Guitar Center of Hickory!

This is your perfect opportunity to continue your guitar journey!   Guitar Centers talented and experienced instructors will be at Highland Recreation Center community room every Wednesday evening October 11th – November 15th, to help you make that happen! This will be a group lesson class.  This class is from 7:00 PM – 8: PM.

These lessons are for acoustic or electric. If you have an electric guitar and need an amp, then please specify when registering. Loaner acoustic guitars will be available if you need to borrow one.

Registration for this 6 week series of lessons is REQUIRED. There are multiple payment options available, including paying per lesson ($20), paying for 3 weeks ($60), or paying for 5 weeks ($100) and receiving 1 lesson for free making it a total of 6 lessons.

Get ready for a day filled with endless fun and excitement as we explore the wonders of the farm. From friendly farm animals to exhilarating activities like bounce pillows and the pipe playground, there’s something for everyone. Unleash your competitive spirit with games like farmer basketball, baseball, and football. Hop aboard the tractor ride for a scenic tour of the farm’s beautiful landscapes. Test your skills with the roping game and marvel at the incredible pumpkin cannon. But that’s not all – the adventure continues with a classic hayride that promises laughter and joy. Don’t miss out on this all-day trip that promises memories, laughter, and learning, all set against the backdrop of a vibrant and welcoming farm environment. This is for ages 7-11.  The trip cost is $25 and includes lunch and snacks. Registration is required.

Skateboard Lessons

Skateboard Lessons 

 

 Saturday, September 30th   10:30 AM – 12:30 AM, Highland Recreation Center Skate Park , Registration Required, This event is a free event.

Learn to skateboard with an advanced instructor. This class is intended for beginners to learn board control, balance, and safety. No skateboard is required, we have ones you can use.  This clinic will be a 2hr session,10:30am-12:30pm. Helmets are required, pads are not required or provided but highly recommended. 10:30 am-12:30 pm.  This is for ages 10yrs -14yrs old. Registration is required.

Wild Bird Walk & Talk

All ages – Come learn all about identifying and feeding wild birds in our area. Meet us at Glenn C. Hilton Park Shelter #1. The event will begin with a presentation about wild birds in our area and bird feeders and their care from Wild Birds Unlimited. We will conclude with a walk through the Glenn C. Hilton Park Boardwalk to try to identify some of the birds we learn about. All participants will be supplied with a small beginner’s booklet about birding, and other free handouts from Wild Bird’s Unlimited.

Doggie Olympics

Is your dog ready to be a Doggie Olympian!? If so, bring them out to Fairbrook Optimist Dog Park on Saturday, September 9th to compete in a variety of contests including best trick, frisbee toss, and more!
There is no cost to participate; however, we are asking that you make a monetary donation or donate dry adult dog food, canned puppy food, and any kind of cat or kitten food. All proceeds and donations will benefit Catawba County Animal Services.
HPD officers will be on site to meet and greet the community and to provide educational material on animal control.
