City of Hickory partners with JRN Development to create affordable housing

The City of Hickory, North Carolina, is partnering with JRN Development to invest in the development and construction of affordable housing on city-owned property.

OBJECTIVE:

  • Provide new, energy and environmentally efficient affordable housing in the Ridgeview Subdivision neighborhood.
  • Single-family detached homes in the $145,000 to $170,000 price range. Three bedrooms with two baths, garage, single and two-story floorplans.
  • JRN will partner with:
    • Offsitek– Automated offsite construction. Integrated construction for land development.
    • Oasis Homes - Real estate representatives.

TARGET HOMEOWNER:

  • Family or individuals (households) earning 80% or less of the Hickory area median income.
  • Buyers will occupy the homes themselves (owner-occupied). No investment/group buyers are permitted.
  • Homes will have deed restrictions to ensure a preset 15-year period of affordability.
  • Homes will resemble the existing style of current homes in the area.
  • Development and construction will begin November/December 2021.

“We are very excited to provide brand new, affordable quality homes to the residents of Hickory,” said Rick Admani Abulhaj, managing director/CEO, JRN Development, LLC. “Working with the city, we are bringing the latest in construction technology and environmental efficiency to provide new buyers a home they will love and a neighborhood they will be proud to be a part of.”

Hickory city officials praised the partnership as a way to expand affordable housing in the area and invest in future projects.

“The city understands the need for affordable housing in Hickory. While some of it will happen organically, it is also important for the city to make a concerted effort to expand on that,” said City Manager Warren Wood. “By working with JRN Development, a partnership was created that will benefit low to moderate income households, while also allowing us to put some of the proceeds back into the Community Development Block Grant program to be used to assist others.”
