LATERAL TRANSFER 
SALARY BASED ON QUALIFICATION (BOQ)

Patrols (on foot or in patrol car) an assigned area in business and residential sections to preserve general order; directs traffic and enforces law; operates speed detection device (radar); performs other police related duties as required. EDUCATION: Applicants must submit either a copy of high school diploma indicating completion of high school or certified copy of GED test results. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of general certification from the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission; pass physical examination and other examinations; prefer applicants with good knowledge of laws and ordinances relating to arrest, search and seizure, traffic control and modern police practices; radio communications and apprehension of criminals; prefer applicants with some knowledge of Hickory street systems; minimum age of 20; applicants must not have been convicted of a felony and must undergo a thorough background investigation; weight must be in proportion to height; possession of valid Class "C" driver's license from NC.

APPLICANTS MUST HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED NC BASIC LAW ENFORCEMENT SCHOOL AND MUST PROVIDE COPY OF DIPLOMA WITH NUMBER OF HOURS.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • MUST BE HIRED BY THE AGENCY FIRST

  • MUST HAVE 2 YEARS OF SWORN EXPERIENCE AND NOT HAVE BEEN SEPARATED FOR MORE THAN 12 MONTHS

  • MUST COMPLETE THE ENTIRE BLET PROGRAM IF SEPARATED MORE THAN 12 MONTHS

  • MUST GIVE ORIGINAL LETTER FROM AGENCY VERIFYING EMPLOYMENT

  • MUST PROVIDE A COPY OF THE OUT OF STATE BLET DIPLOMA

  • MUST PROVIDE A TOPICAL BREAKDOWN OF WHAT COURSES WERE COMPLETED IN BLET.

  • NORTH CATOLINA CRIMINAL JUSTICE TRAINING AND STANDARDS WILL PROVIDE A LETTER INFORMING THE APPLICANT WHAT MUST BE COMPLETED (MINIMUM NUMBER OF HOURS)

  • MUST COMPLETE BLET WITHIN 12 MONTHS

  • APPLICANT CANNOT COME TO NORTH CAROLINA AND TAKE THE SHORTEN VERSION AND THEN SEEK EMPLOYMENT.  THE APPLICANT MUST BE A SWORN OFFICER TO TAKE THE SHORTEN VERSION.
