Rev. Dr. Anthony Freeman - Ward 4 Alderman, Hickory City Council

Hickory City Council appoints Rev. Dr. Anthony Freeman to Ward 4 seat

Rev. Dr. Anthony Freeman was selected by the Hickory City Council to fill the Ward 4 vacancy.

At Tuesday’s meeting, Hickory City Council voted unanimously to appoint Freeman to the Ward 4 seat on the council. Freeman is the pastor of Clinton Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion Church.

The appointment comes after Hickory City Council interviewed six highly qualified and passionate candidates, who submitted letters of interest for the vacancy, during a special called meeting on Monday.

Freeman fills the Ward 4 seat that became vacant following the resignation of Councilman David Williams, who announced in January that he would be moving out of his ward and stepping down from the council. Freeman will serve as the Ward 4 Alderman until the City of Hickory’s next general election in November.

Freeman will be officially sworn into office at the next Hickory City Council meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Julian G. Whitener Municipal Building. Prior to the meeting, a reception to honor Freeman will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the atrium.

Julian G. Whitener Municipal Building is located at 76 N. Center St. in Hickory. For more information about Hickory City Council, visit https://www.hickorync.gov/city-council
