Hickory Fire Department extinguishes house fire

At approximately 18:56 p.m. Wednesday night, Hickory firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire located in the area of 819 Highland Ave SE. On arrival at 18:59, they found fire coming from the front of the residence and one occupant safe outside. After assessment, one occupant was transported to a local hospital to be checked out. Firefighters worked to search for additional occupants and to extinguish the fire. The fire was reported controlled at 19:07.

Hickory Fire Department responded with two engines, one ladder, one rescue truck, and two command units. Hickory Police and Catawba County EMS also responded to the incident. The Red Cross also responded to the incident and will be assisting the occupants.

Fire Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be accidental due to heating.
