Hickory firefighters respond to house fire

At approximately 11:53 p.m. Wednesday night, Hickory firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire located in the area of 2217 22nd Ave Place SE. On arrival at 11:55 p.m., they reported fire coming from the attic/roof of the single story residential building and heavy amounts of smoke inside the house. Firefighters were informed that all human occupants were outside the structure, but one dog was missing. During their search and extinguishment, firefighters located the dog, but it was deceased. The fire was reported controlled at 00:38.

Hickory Fire Department responded with three engines, one ladder, one rescue truck, and two command units. Catawba County EMS also responded to the incident and the Red Cross will be assisting the occupants.

A Fire Investigator from Catawba County Fire Marshal’s Office determined the cause of the fire to be smoking related.
