Hickory firefighters respond to house fire on First Avenue SE

At approximately 12:24 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Hickory firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire located in the area of 617 1st Ave SE. On arrival just minutes later, they reported fire and smoke coming from the roof of the single story residential building and heavy amounts of smoke inside the house. Firefighters checked the building to ensure all occupants were outside and worked to extinguish the fire.

Hickory Fire Department responded with two engines, one ladder, one rescue truck, and one command unit. Catawba County EMS also responded to the incident and the Red Cross will be assisting the occupant.

A Fire Investigator determined the cause of the fire to be started by an electrical heater too close to combustibles.
