Hickory Police investigate fatal shooting

On Saturday April 1, at approximately 6:57 a.m., the Hickory Police Department’s Communications Center received a 911 call from a female who advised that an unknown subject had fired multiple rounds at her and her husband when they arrived home at 240 14th Ave Dr SW. Upon arrival, officers located the female, Joy Tucker (45 years old), lying on the front steps to the residence with a minor wound to her knee. Officers then located Tucker’s husband, Prosper Nyatorwonu (46 years old), lying on the ground near the rear of the residence with gunshot injuries. Officers provided emergency aid to Nyatorwonu until Catawba County EMS arrived on scene. Catawba County EMS transported Nyatorwonu to Frye Regional Medical Center where he was initially treated prior to being transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where he died as a result of his injuries on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.

The victims were not able to provide any information about the shooter. Investigators are continuing their investigation and additional details will be released as they become available.
