Hickory Police investigate fatal traffic crash

Hickory Police investigated a fatal traffic crash on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, involving two vehicles on Old Lenoir Road NW.

Hickory officers responded to a traffic crash that occurred at the 800 block of Old Lenoir Road NW at 4:51 p.m. A 1990 Ford Ranger, driven by Bobby Lee Ray, 76, of Hickory was attempting to make a left turn onto 11th Street NW while a 2010 Ford Mustang, driven by Evan Lane Lackey, 21, of Hickory was traveling west on Old Lenoir Road NW. After the vehicles collided, the Ford Mustang struck a building at 808 Old Lenoir Road NW.

Lackey was transported to Frye Regional Medical Center by Catawba EMS. Ray was pronounced deceased at the scene. Hickory Fire also responded to the scene.
