Hickory Police investigate homicide; Arrest made

UPDATE: Wednesday, November 24, 2021, 10:16 p.m. - On Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at approximately 5:40 p.m., Quavius Shamond Izard; B/M, DOB: 5/27/2000 was found hiding on a property in Collettsville, NC by the owner. The property owner contacted the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office and deputies responded and took Izard into custody. He was served with the warrant for 1st Degree Murder and will be held in the Catawba County Jail under “No Bond.” Anyone with information regarding this on-going investigation is encouraged to call the Hickory Police Department at 828-328-5551 or contact Investigator David Moore directly at 828-261-2686 or dfmoore@hickorync.gov.

UPDATE: Monday, November 22, 2021, 10:26 p.m. - A warrant for 1st Degree Murder has been issued for Quavius Shamond Izard; B/M, DOB: 5/27/2000 in connection to the murder of Omari Drovon Alexander. Izard should be considered to be Armed & Dangerous. Anyone with information in reference to the location of Quavius Izard or information about this case is asked to contact the Hickory Police Department at 828-328-5551 or Investigator David Moore at 828-261-2686 or dfmoore@hickorync.gov.

On November 22, 2021 Hailee Maureen Melanson; B/F, DOB: 6/14/2001 was charged with Felony Accessory After The Fact in connection to the murder of Omari Drovon Alexander. Melanson is being held in the Catawba County Jail under “No Bond.”

Saturday, November 20, 2021, 8:10 a.m. - On Saturday November 20, 2021, at approximately 12:54 a.m., Hickory Police Officers responded to Civitan Court Apartments, 405 17th Avenue NE, in reference to a shots fired call. Upon arrival, officers located a black 2015 Chevrolet Camaro with the engine running in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Officers approached the vehicle and observed an unresponsive 19-year-old black male, Omari Drovon Alexander, sitting in the driver’s seat of the vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers attempted to provide medical aid to Alexander until Catawba County Emergency Medical Service arrived on scene. Upon arrival, Paramedics evaluated Alexander and pronounced him deceased at the scene.
