Hickory Public Library presents Handmade Holidays series

Celebrate the holiday season and create handmade gifts with Hickory Public Library!

From October through December, Hickory Public Library will host a variety of opportunities for holiday crafting through its Handmade Holidays series.

OCTOBER

Hobbit Doors* 
Part 1: Wednesday | Sept. 24 | 6-7:30 p.m. | The Learning Lab at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library 
Part 2: Wednesday | Oct. 1 | 6-7:30 p.m. | The Learning Lab at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library 
Teens & Adults—Happy Hobbit Day! In Part 1, learn to use TinkerCAD to make your very own Hobbit door ornament that will be 3D printed. In Part 2, decorate your printed Hobbit doors! Registration is required, and only individuals who participate in Part 1 will be able to attend Part 2. 

Patchwork Potholder*  
Monday | Oct. 6 | 5:30 p.m. | Ridgeview Branch Library 
Adults—Traveling for the holidays? Learn a portable sewing technique you can take on the go! You’ll learn the basics of English Paper Piecing, a hand-sewing process that uses paper templates and fabric to create intricate designs. 

Crochet Bowl Cozy* 
Saturday | Oct. 11 | 3 p.m. | Ridgeview Branch Library 
Teens & Adults—Whether it’s a hot cup of soup or a cold bowl of ice cream, keep your hands safe from the temperature of the bowl by creating your own crocheted bowl cozy. Learn basic crochet stitches for a simple bowl cozy. 

Bloom-kins with The Flower Fairy* 
Monday | Oct. 13 | 6 p.m. | The Learning Lab at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library 
Teens & Adults—Local botanical cultivator The Flower Fairy will show you how to turn a festive pumpkin into a unique and beautiful vase for a fresh floral arrangement. No prior floral experience is needed. We provide the pumpkins, the blooms, and all the guidance; just bring your autumn spirit.

Halloween Fuse Bead Art 
Friday | Oct. 17 | 2-4 p.m. | Patrick Beaver Memorial Library 
Ages 9-12—Get ready for Halloween by creating a masterpiece in your own spooky style. This program is first come, first served while supplies last. No registration required. 

CemeTerrariums* 
Monday | Oct. 20 | 2-3:30 p.m. & 6-7:30 p.m. | The Learning Lab at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library 
Teens & Adults—Utilize plants from The Learning Lab’s Plant Share & Seed Exchange to cultivate a miniature world of gloom. We'll supply 3D-printed cemetery embellishments to complete your eerie masterpiece. 

Macrame Pumpkins*  
Monday | Oct. 27 | 6 p.m. | The Learning Lab at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library  
Adults—Join us for a fun beginner-friendly macrame workshop where you’ll learn to create your very own charming pumpkin! This program is designed for all levels of macrame experience. Using three simple knots, you will have made a cute and cozy fall decoration, perfect for your home or for gifting. All supplies will be provided.   

Spooky Ghost Diamond Art* 
Thursday | Oct. 30 | 6 p.m. | Patrick Beaver Memorial Library
Adults—Enter if you dare! Join us at the library for a hauntingly fun craft session where you’ll create shimmering ghost-themed diamond art. These spooky specters will sparkle with eerie charm as you bring them to life bead by bead. Whether you're a seasoned crafter or a curious beginner, this chillingly creative class is perfect for anyone who loves Halloween, ghosts, and glitter. All supplies are provided—just bring your spooky spirit!  

NOVEMBER

Fall Watercolor Painting* 
Saturday | Nov. 1 | 9:30 a.m. | Patrick Beaver Memorial Library
Adults—Explore fall colors using watercolor techniques with local artist Mark Anderson. Have fun and get creative painting two 5” x 7” folded cards. All supplies will be provided, and no painting experience is needed. 
 
Plastic Canvas Gift Card Holders* 
Saturday | Nov. 1 | 3 p.m. | Ridgeview Branch Library
Teens & Adults—Create lasting gift card holders that can be reused for years to come while learning basic plastic canvas stitches.  

Chunky Yarn Pumpkins with Creativebug* 
Monday | Nov. 3 | 2 p.m. & 6 p.m. | The Learning Lab at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library
Adults—Create cozy fall decor with chunky yarn pumpkins. No hooks or needles are required for this easy and unique piece to decorate your table for Thanksgiving. 

Stamp Carving*  
Monday | Nov. 3 | 6 p.m. | Ridgeview Branch Library
Adults—Learn to carve your own rubber stamps to add personality to cards, gift wrapping, and more. You’ll learn to transfer a design and use tools safely to create a unique stamp. Individuals must sign a safety waiver to participate in this workshop. 

Gratitude Journaling* 
Wednesday | Nov. 5 | 6 p.m. | The Learning Lab at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library
Saturday | Nov. 8 | 2 p.m. | The Learning Lab at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library
Adults—Celebrate the season of thankfulness with a cozy adult workshop featuring guided gratitude journaling. Participants will decorate two journals—one to keep and one to gift to a friend—using autumn-themed materials. Enjoy warm seasonal refreshments like cider and pumpkin treats as you reflect, create, and connect in a welcoming space. 

Upcycled Upholstery Fabric Wreaths* 
Monday | Nov. 10 | 2 p.m. & 6 p.m. | The Learning Lab at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library 
Teens & Adults—Craft a beautiful and unique wreath using upholstery fabric, perfect for adding a touch of handmade charm to your home decor. 

Macra-Maple Leaf Coasters*  
Monday | Nov. 17 | 6 p.m. | The Learning Lab at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library 
Adults—Join us for a fun-filled workshop to create your own Macrame Maple leaf coasters! This beginner-friendly program will teach you how to make a cozy set of coasters, perfect for hot cups of cider! All supplies will be provided. 
 
Self Care Kit* 
Saturday  | Nov. 22 | 2 p.m. | Ridgeview Branch Library 
Teens & Adults—Pause and create a self care kit with the guidance of Andream Luxury Candles. Customize a candle and body scrub for hours of relaxation in a season of busyness. Individuals must sign a safety waiver to participate in this workshop. 

Family Soap Carving* 
Monday | Nov. 24 | 6 p.m. | Patrick Beaver Memorial Library  
Family—Parent/guardian and child will work together to carve soap in holiday shapes in this family workshop. 

DECEMBER

Macrame Snowman*   
Wednesday | Dec. 10 | 6 p.m. | The Learning Lab at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library 
Adults—Join us for a fun beginner-friendly macrame workshop where you’ll learn to create your very own charming snowman! This program is designed for all levels of macrame experience. Using three simple knots, you will have made a cute and cozy winter decoration, perfect for your home or for gifting! All supplies will be provided.   

Drop-in Gift Making 
Thursday | Dec. 11 | 4-6 p.m. | Patrick Beaver Memorial Library
All Ages—Get into the holiday spirit at a joyful drop-in gift-making workshop for all ages! Come share in the festive fun and rotate through a winter wonderland of creation stations to craft sparkling, one-of-a-kind presents for everyone on your nice list. 

Watercolor Holiday Cards* 
Saturday | Dec. 13 | 2 p.m. | Ridgeview Branch Library 
Teens & Adults—Explore watercolor techniques with local artist Mark Anderson. You'll paint two 5” x 7” folded cards to express your creativity through art and words.  

Felt Gift Tags*  
Monday | Dec. 15 | 6 p.m. | Ridgeview Branch Library 
Adults—Embroider and sew your own reusable felt gift tags using festive, Christmas inspired patterns. Registration is required and will open three weeks before the event.

Fuse Bead Lanterns* 
Saturday | Dec. 20 | 2-4 p.m. | Patrick Beaver Memorial Library 
Teens—Celebrate the winter solstice by making a lantern with fuse beads to light up the night on the shortest day of the year.
