New information technology (IT) director hired
The City of Hickory has hired Darin Kiracofe as its new information technology director.
Kiracofe started his new role on June 23, taking over as head of the Information Technology (IT) Department for the City of Hickory. The IT Department is responsible for maintaining the City’s computer systems, local and metropolitan area networks, switches, servers, telecommunications, data storage devices, and other items related to technology. This includes providing technical support for 300+ personal computers and 400+ mobile devices, including cell phones, tablets, and laptops.
Kiracofe has significant experience in the information technology field, having served as the network manager for more than 12 years and then the chief information officer for the last 13 years at Broughton Hospital in Morganton, North Carolina. He was the IT lead for planning and implementing the new Broughton Hospital in 2019 and setting up a state-of-the-art data center to serve that facility.
In addition to his knowledge of IT applications analysis, systems design, computer networking, IT security and computer forensics, Kiracofe has many years of managerial experience and has developed and implemented numerous IT policies and procedures, along with developing and managing budgets for the hospital.
Kiracofe holds a Computer Accounting Management Certificate in Computer Programming from the Apollo Career Center and an associate’s degree in Microcomputer Systems Technology from Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute.
“I'm excited to welcome Darin as our new IT director. He brings strong leadership and a history of delivering innovative tech solutions. We're looking forward to the fresh perspective and progress he'll bring to our city," said Hickory City Manager Warren Wood.
“Success in IT isn't just about up-time; it's about insight, innovation, and alignment with the business. I look forward to using my knowledge and skills to support the City’s mission and make a positive impact,” added Kiracofe.
Born in Findlay, Ohio, Kiracofe was raised on a farm with cows, chickens, and pigs. He grew up in a large extended family with five sisters, one stepsister, and three stepbrothers.
Prior to working at Broughton Hospital, Kiracofe served four years active duty in the United States Marine Corps and over two years as the wide area network manager for Burke County Public Schools. He has been a member of the Marine Corps League since 2005 and currently serves as the commandant of Table Rock Detachment 1197. He volunteers his time with the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.
Kiracofe is married with two daughters and a son.
