From Wilmington to Cherokee, North Carolina is a treasure trove of ghostly lore. After hearing these tales, you may be a little apprehensive on dark windy nights.

UFOs: Food for Thought presentation at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Join us at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at 6:30 pm for a discussion of the UFO phenomena with local resident, Mark Spencer. Mr. Spencer will give a presentation on the modern history of UFO sightings; the government connection with UFOs and alien encounters. Some of the topics and cases covered will include the Roswell Incident, Area 51 and abductions by aliens. During the presentation, he will add some of his own thoughts on the subject.

Funding Your Business Presentation at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Securing funding for a small business remains a top challenge in this turbulent environment. The Small Business Center will present a panel discussion designed to help entrepreneurs understand the funding process at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 4:00 pm. This two-hour program consists of panel discussions with local bankers, financial organizations, and public and private resources to help small business owners and prospective business owners understand the current lending environment and identify options available for funding. Each panel will be followed with Q and A session for participants to ask questions and interact with panel members. This program is free but registration is required.

Author Jack Grossman at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Author Jack Grossman will provide a program at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 6:30 p.m.  Grossman will discuss the journey of writing his book, Child of the Forest (2018), which he co-authored with James Buchanan.  Mooresville resident Jack Grossman has received numerous Humanitarian Awards and is a Founding and Legacy Board Member of Dove House Children's Advocacy Center in Statesville, NC.  The program features an author talk exploring the themes of his Holocaust-era novel with time for audience questions and a book signing.  Books will be available for purchase.

Seed Saving and Plant Propagation Presentation at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Join Dr. George Place, Catawba County Cooperative Extension Director in a presentation about seed saving and plant propagation on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.  You will learn how to select and save seeds with proper technique.  We will also discuss how to share your favorite plants with cuttings, layering, division, and more.  This presentation is part of our Advanced Gardener series designed to help both beginner and advanced gardeners enjoy all of the health, enjoyment, and learning that comes from managing the home landscape and growing some of your own produce.

Classic Mystery Film Series at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Join us at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library with WHKY film critic Joe Barrett on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. to watch and discuss the last in our trio of classic murder mystery films.  The film for October 8 is The Night of the Hunter (1955).  After watching the film, Barrett will lead a discussing including some details behind the production of the films and about those involved.

On Friday, October 4, 2019 at 12:00 p.m., the First Friday Local Author program at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library will feature freelance writer and author Nancy Geiger.  The October program will take place in the upstairs conference room.  You are welcome to bring your own lunch to eat during this program.  The First Friday Local Author program is free and open to the public.
