Now accepting applications for non-profit CDBG funds

The City of Hickory is now accepting applications for non-profit Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.  The funds are used for grants for public services programs that benefit low and moderate income people in the City of Hickory in support of its housing and community development goals.  Applications are available online and must be submitted and received in the Community Development Department by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 15.  For more information, please contact Karen Dickerson in the Community Development Division at (828) 323-7414.

Design Foundry to invest $3.133 million and create 202 jobs

Governor Cooper announced on January 8 that Design Foundry LLC plans to manufacture upholstered furniture in partnership with a major furniture and home goods retailer.  The company plans to invest $3.133 million in building renovations and machinery and equipment and create 202 new jobs with an overall average wage of $57,995 over a five-year period.

Hickory development earns 2018 Housing NC Award

The North Carolina Housing Finance Agency presented the 2018 Housing North Carolina Awards, the state’s top honor for excellence in affordable housing, during the NC Affordable Housing Conference in Raleigh on October 24.  The Northstone development in Hickory was among six properties to receive the award and be recognized as a model for other communities.
