Community Scanning Days at the Ridgeview Branch Library

The Ridgeview Branch of Hickory Public Library is pleased announce that it was recently awarded a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Mini-Grant, “Community Connections: She Changed the World,” in order to celebrate Ridgeview’s history by preserving and documenting the lived experiences of the community.  The public is asked to contribute to making this project a success.  Throughout the month of February, the Ridgeview Branch Library will host several Community Scanning Days.

Freedom Flyers of Tuskegee Screening at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

There will be a screening of the documentary Freedom Flyers of Tuskegee at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 6:30 pm. The documentary tells the story of the African American fighter pilots of the Tuskegee Army Airfield and their struggles against racism during World War II.

Movies from Books Series at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Join us on select Tuesday evenings at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library with WHKY film critic Joe Barrett to watch and then discuss classic films that were inspired by books.  The remaining films, dates, and times are To Sir with Love (1967) on February 4 at 6:30 p.m., and A Night to Remember (1958) on February 18 at 6:00 p.m.  After watching the film, Barrett will lead a discussion including some details behind the production of the films and about those involved.

Enviro-Shred Offers Free Shredding at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

For the seventh straight year, Hickory based shredding company Enviro-Shred will offer free shredding service at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  Individuals will have the opportunity to shred at no charge up to two boxes or bags of personal documents in Patrick Beaver Memorial Library’s parking lot.
