Ice Tie-Dye at the Ridgeview Branch Library

Visit the Ridgeview Library on Thursday, July 12 at 4 pm to try a new take on traditional tie-dye. Learn how to use ice and fabric dye to create a water color, tie-dye effect on t-shirts or pillowcases. Please bring your own white cotton t-shirt or pillowcase from home. The library will have limited sizes and quantities of shirts available at the event so please call in advance to reserve one. Holiday Sing-along and Parade at the Library

Patrick Beaver Memorial Library is celebrating our nation’s Independence Day with the annual Happy Birthday America! Parade and sing-along on Tuesday, July 3.  Kids of all ages are invited to decorate their wheels in holiday red, white, and blue and join the parade around the SALT Block parking lots.

"Creativity Rocks! Craft Club” at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Beginning in July, Patrick Beaver Memorial Library is starting a general crafting club entitled “Creativity Rocks! Craft Club.”  Everyone interested is welcome to join us every Monday at 6:00 p.m. in the upstairs conference room beginning Monday, July 2, 2018.  Bring your latest beading, scrapbooking, or other crafty work-in-progress such as needlecraft projects to this informal group for all skill levels.  Anyone not currently working on a craft project is also welcome to join us and enjoy coloring with supplies provided by the library.

Twisted Pine to perform at Sails Original Music Series

Friday, June 29, Twisted Pine will unleash its signature sound on Union Square at the City of Hickory’s Sails Original Music Series.  Kathleen Parks (fiddle), Rachel Sumner (guitar), Dan Bui (mandolin), and Chris Sartori (bass) make up this band of players and singer-songwriters that produce a unique blend of bluegrass, folk, funk, jam, and vintage radio pop.

Guerilla Poets at the Ridgeview Branch Library

Teens are invited to the Ridgeview Library on Tuesday, July 10 at 6 pm to spend an evening with the Guerilla Poets for an awesome workshop. They will teach you how to use poetry, music, and art to express yourself in creative ways.

City of Hickory recognized as Gold WellBusiness Award winner for employee health efforts

The WellBusiness Advisory Council recently recognized the City of Hickory with the Gold WellBusiness Award.  The City of Hickory’s efforts to decrease tobacco use, encourage physical activity, inspire healthy food choices, and promote cancer screenings among its employees, qualified the City for this award.

Hickory Water Treatment Facility earns award for water quality

The N.C. Division of Water Resources has honored 69 water treatment facilities for surpassing federal and state drinking water standards.  The City of Hickory’s Water Treatment Facility was among those to receive the prestigious N.C. Area Wide Optimization Program (AWOP) Award for 2017.

Falling Creek Road bridge reopens

The Falling Creek Road bridge replacement project is now complete and open to traffic. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) conducted the final inspection and approval on Wednesday, June 20, prior to reopening the structure.

Sails Original Music Series features The Moon and You

Friday, June 22, the City of Hickory’s Sails Original Music Series will feature Asheville folk ensemble, The Moon and You.  At its core are married singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Ryan Furstenberg (banjo, guitar) and Melissa Hyman (cello), who will be accompanied by other talented musicians to help create a one-of-a-kind Americana experience.
