Science Fiction Film Fest Continues at the Carolina Theater with Godzilla 06/26/2019

To celebrate A Universe of Stories as part of the Hickory Public Library’s summer learning program, the Ridgeview Branch is presenting a Science Fiction Film Fest at the Carolina Theater in downtown Hickory. This series of free film screenings continues on Wednesday, June 26 at 7 pm with a showing of Godzilla, Ishiro Honda’s 1954 monster movie masterpiece.

Ridgeview Summer Jam

Hickory Parks and Recreation invites the entire community to come rock the block and stop the stigma of mental health issues at the inaugural Ridgeview Summer Jam.  This free community event will take place on Saturday, July 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Samuel William Davis, Sr. Multipurpose Field, located across from Brown Penn Recreation Center.

Road closure on 13th Avenue Drive SE

Due to a recent infrastructure failure that occurred on 13th Avenue Drive SE, near the intersection with 19th Street Drive SE, the roadway will be closed today, June 24, for the contractor to finalize the repairs on the underground storm drain pipe.  This closure will remain in effect for approximately six weeks.

The National Park Service recently approved a boundary increase for the Oakwood National Register Historic District in Hickory.

Henry Fork River Regional Recreation Park and Boardwalk Reopen

Henry Fork River Regional Recreation Park and the boardwalk at Glenn C. Hilton, Jr. Memorial Park have been reopened.  All City parks are now open.  However, the following park amenities remain closed until further notice:

State of Emergency Terminated

Mayor Hank Guess terminated the state of emergency declared for the City of Hickory in response to the recent flooding event, effective 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 11.

City Parks Reopen

All City of Hickory parks have been reopened, with the exception of Henry Fork River Regional Recreation Park.  In addition, several park amenities remain closed until further notice.

Water remains safe after overflows

The City of Hickory had a discharge of untreated wastewater on 06/09/19 of an estimated 185,000 gallons at 2061 Snow Creek Road.  The untreated wastewater was discharged into Snow Creek.  The City of Hickory also had a discharge of untreated water on 06/09/19 of an estimated 78,000 gallons at 310 Cloninger Mill Road.  The untreated wastewater was discharged into Falling Creek.  The City of Hickory had an additional discharge of untreated wastewater on 6/10/2019 of an estimated 80,000 gallons at 12th Avenue SE.  The untreated wastewater was discharged into Clark Creek.

Sails Original Music Series Presents Tunes in Trade Alley

The Sails Original Music Series will present “Tunes in Trade Alley” this Saturday, June 15, in Downtown Hickory.  Come out to Trade Alley in the heart of Downtown Hickory for a little bit different Sails Music experience and an entire afternoon of original music.  Three bands will be featured at the Saturday event, with shows at 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.
