Carolina Built: Preserving African American History through Story with Author Kianna Alexander

Join us on Saturday, May 20, at 2 p.m. for an afternoon with Kianna Alexander – North Carolina native and featured author on the North Carolina Reads statewide book club organized by NC Humanities. Alexander will discuss the research and writing of her novel Carolina Built, which novelizes the life of real estate magnate Josephine N. Leary in a previously untold story of passion, perseverance, and building a legacy after emancipation in North Carolina. Alexander will discuss the preservation of African American stories and the research and writing of her historical fiction novel.

Kianna Alexander will speak from 2-3 p.m. at Drendel Auditorium. After a short break, a book sale and signing will commence at 3:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room of Patrick Beaver Memorial Library. Adventure Bound Books from Morganton, N.C. will be on site to sell copies of the author’s books. Registration is not required, but this program is first come, first served.
