Hickory Police investigate fatal traffic crash

Hickory Police investigated a fatal traffic crash involving two vehicles on Saturday, January 13.

At 11:26 a.m., a gold Ford Ranger, driven by David Vincent Flowers, 55, of Hickory, was traveling south on Lenoir Rhyne Blvd SE. A silver Audi Q5, driven by Erica Brooke Thompkins, 25, of Morganton, was traveling north on Lenoir Rhyne Blvd SE. The Ford Ranger crossed the center lane into the path of the Audi causing a head-on collision.

Flowers was transported by Catawba County EMS to Catawba Valley Medical Center where he later died as a result of his injuries. Erica Thompkins and Cullen Thompkins, a passenger in the Audi, were both transported by Catawba County EMS to Frye Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
