Hickory Police investigate shooting

On Wednesday April 7, 2021, at approximately 10:40 p.m., Hickory Police Officers responded to 251 3rd Avenue SE after receiving a 911 call that a female had been shot. Upon arrival, officers located a 59-year-old black female, Penny Lee White, inside the residence with a gunshot wound to the head and leg. A 16-year-old black male also had a minor injury to his arm from a gunshot wound. White was transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center where she was initially treated prior to being transferred to Carolina’s Medical Center and is listed in stable condition. The 16-year-old male was treated at the scene for his injury.

During the initial investigation, it was determined that White and the 16-year-old male were inside the residence when an unknown subject or subjects fired multiple rounds into the residence while standing in the front yard.
