A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE & MURDER
When the low-born Monty Navarro finds out that he's eighth in line for an earldom in the lofty D'Ysquith family, he figures his chances of outliving his predecessors are slight and sets off down a far more ghoulish path. SAILS ORIGINAL MUSIC SERIES
The Sails Original Music Series returns this fall. Enjoy free concerts of live music every Friday in September. Concerts start at 7 p.m. on Union Square, except for the September 15th concert at Samuel David Field in Taft Broome Park. JAZZ ON TAP LEGACY CONCERT SERIES
Spend Sunday afternoons from 4-6 p.m. soaking up jazz music on Union Square with the Jazz on Tap Legacy Concert Series. Bryon Bean Dixieland Band will perform on September 3 and the Todd Wright Quartet will take to The CommScope Stage on September 17. This series is presented by the Hickory Jazz Society and Hickory Downtown Development Association, in partnership with the City of Hickory.

LENOIR SAX: FASCINATING RHYTHM
As part of the LR Concert Series, enjoy an evening of lively and engaging chamber music with lauded community stalwarts on Friday, September 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Grace Chapel on the Lenoir-Rhyne University campus. The Lenoir Sax will present staples of the saxophone quartet masterworks alongside expertly crafted arrangements from the jazz songbook. 

DOWNTOWN ART CRAWL & SIDE/SHOW
The Downtown Hickory Art Crawl and Western Piedmont Symphony’s popular Side/Show event will cover downtown with sights and sounds on Thursday, September 21. Presented by the Hickory Downtown Development Association, the Art Crawl begins at 5 p.m., with the musical performances of Side/Show taking place from 5-8 p.m. at various locations throughout downtown. VISITING WRITERS SERIES
Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Visiting Writers Series will return on Thursday, September 14, with American cartoonist and author Lynda Barry. The evening event will take place at 7 p.m. in P.E. Monroe Auditorium at Lenoir-Rhyne University. Visit www.LR.edu/VWS for more event details.

FOOTCANDLE FILM FESTIVAL
The Footcandle Film Festival returns to Hickory September 15-24 with both in-person and online screenings of between 25-35 films during the course of the festival. Visit www.FootcandleFilmFestival.com for all the details.

LYRICS OF A CHRYSALIS: POETRY AND PROCESS WITH TRACY HAWKINS
Local author Tracy Hawkins will host a poetry reading from her book, Lyrics from a Chrysalis, on the side lawn of the Patrick Beaver Memorial Library, on Saturday, September 16, from 2-3 p.m. Please bring a chair or a blanket to sit on. In the event of rain, the program will be moved into the library meeting room. 

AREA BLACK AUTHORS PANEL
Celebrate your community by supporting area authors. Friends of Ridgeview Branch Library and Hickory NAACP will host a panel style conversation with several local authors who will share their process, their story, and their advice. The program will take place Saturday, September 16, from 2-3 p.m., at Ridgeview Branch Library.

FOOTHILLS POPS: DISNEY IN CONCERT - A DREAM IS A WISH
A Dream is a Wish transports audiences into the musical world of classic and contemporary Disney Animated Feature films to discover that dreams really do come true. Join the Western Piedmont Symphony on Saturday, September 16, at 7:30 p.m., at J.E. Broyhill Civic Center as the magic of Disney storytelling comes to life once again and reminds us anew that anything is possible. Presentation authorized by Disney Concerts © All rights reserved. TODOS SOMOS AMÉRICA
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the second annual Todos Somos América (We Are All America) festival on Sunday, September 24, from 4-7 p.m., on Union Square. Presented by Centro Latino Hickory, in partnership with the City of Hickory, this event showcases the history, music, art, food, and dance of Latin-Hispanic-American cultures. The festival will include activities for the whole family including exhibits about various Latin American countries, face painting and games for children, food trucks, a karate demonstration by children that participate in Centro Latino’s after school program Abriendo Puertas, piñatas for kids, raffles, a DJ playing traditional music, a quinceañera’s parade and competition, and traditional dances. CATAWBA VALLEY FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS
The Catawba Valley Festival of the Arts is a celebration of the creativity and talents of our visual, literary, and performing artists and designers. The 2023 Festival is a pivotal year for the event, occurring in partnership with the Downtown Newton Development Association and the Lenoir-Rhyne University "Art of Compassion" series. The Festival features a theatrical reading of the anti-bullying themed musical “Zazzie Sings” on September 29 at the Hickory Community Theatre. SATURDAY SCREENINGS: THE KARATE KID
Sit back, relax, and enjoy a free screening of The Karate Kid on Saturday, September 30, at 8:30 p.m. on Union Square. Saturday Screenings bring together the community to enjoy nostalgic films that are family favorites.
