Dr. Jennifer Griffin named 2026 Human Relations Award recipient
The City of Hickory Community Relations Council (CRC) has announced Dr. Jennifer Griffin, superintendent of Hickory City Schools, as the recipient of the 2026 Human Relations Award. The award was presented during the Hickory Multicultural Festival held downtown on April 25.
Each year, the CRC’s Human Relations Awards recognize individuals, organizations, and businesses that go “above and beyond” in fostering positive human relations within the City of Hickory. Dr. Griffin exemplifies this commitment through her exceptional leadership, deep dedication to students and families, and her ability to build meaningful connections throughout the community.
With decades of experience as a Teaching Fellow, teacher, principal, curriculum specialist, National Board Certified educator, and Hickory City Schools parent, Dr. Griffin brings a comprehensive understanding of public education and community needs. She is known for fostering open communication, elevating student and parent voices, strengthening partnerships, and promoting transparency across the school district.
Dr. Griffin actively engages with community partners, staff, and families; celebrates student and employee achievements; collaborates with regional education leaders; and prioritizes staff wellness. Her leadership has been instrumental in advancing major district projects, supporting arts and athletics, restoring the Education Foundation, and creating a culture where every individual feels valued.
Her calm, compassionate approach—whether offering reassurance during challenging moments or sharing stories of school successes—reflects her belief that strong relationships are essential to a thriving community.
