Kickoff for Fire Prevention Week
On Sunday, Oct. 5, fire departments across the county will celebrate Fire Prevention Week activities. To kick off the national event, Catawba County Firefighters will hold a special display at Home Depot, located on U.S. 70, from 1-3 p.m.
Firefighters and fire trucks from across Catawba County are planning to attend.
Participating agencies include: Catawba Fire Department, Conover Fire Department, Cooksville Fire Department, Hickory Fire Department, Long View Fire Department, Mountain View Fire Department, Oxford Fire Department, Sherrills Ford–Terrell Fire & Rescue, and St. Stephens Fire Department.
New for this year, Sherrills Ford-Terrell Fire & Rescue will have their inflatable fire safety house for families to walk through and spot the hazards. Another special feature, hosted by Catawba Fire Department, will be a child-sized obstacle course (Junior Agility Challenge) to learn more about the job of a firefighter.
Back by popular demand, Cooksville Fire Department will provide drone demonstrations and have their replica horse and wagon/buggy on display for families to take photos during the event. Pluggie, the talking fire hydrant, will also be making appearances. Safe Kids Catawba County will have a car seat safety display.
During this free event, firefighters will be available to answer questions and will pass out free literature and treats for children. Stop by, sit in a fire truck, enjoy free fun, and help firefighters celebrate National Fire Prevention Week!
