Lake Hickory Trails closed for Duke Energy maintenance work

Starting Monday, May 22, the Lake Hickory Trails between Rotary-Geitner Park and Hickory City Park will be closed for Duke Energy to perform maintenance along the power lines through the property. This work will take about a week to complete and includes tree trimming and mowing of the right-of-way.

For the safety of park visitors and contractors, the nature and biking trails in this area will be closed until the work has been completed. Signage for the closure will be posted at the trailheads at both parks.

Duke Energy routinely prunes or removes trees and other vegetation along the power lines to maintain safe, reliable service and minimize outages. These practices are approved by internationally recognized tree care associations and are referred to as Integrated Vegetation Management (IVM).
