Water Collection System

The City of Hickory Collection System operates under a permit issued November 30, 2003 to the City by the Division of Water Quality for the operation and maintenance of the wastewater collection system. This permit requires the City to follow certain rules and guidelines for right-of-way clearing, sewer line cleaning, and pump station checking and record keeping. The City reports to and is inspected by the NC Department of Environment & Natural Resources, (NC DENR). All reportable sewer releases are reported to the NC DENR.

The City of Hickory Collection System consists of the following:

  • Approximately 500 miles of gravity sewer.
  • 2 miles of low-pressure sewer.
  • 20 miles of force main.
  • 67 duplex pump stations.

In addition to City of Hickory residents, the Collection Division maintains areas in the Bethlehem community of Alexander County, Mountain View, Brookford, Sherrills Ford, the Town of Catawba, Town of Hildebran and the City of Claremont.
