Art and Social Justice: Art’s Role in Promoting Social Change

Join Patrick Beaver Memorial Library and Hickory Community Theatre on Saturday, February 11, at 2 p.m. as we explore the ways in which art can be used to influence social change. Humanities faculty from Winston-Salem State University will conduct a panel discussion about the ways that art was used to raise awareness of critical social issues during the Civil Rights Movement and the ways art can inspire community members to fight for social change.

This program is presented in collaboration with Hickory Community Theatre and is intended to provide a deeper understanding of the historical issues serving as the backdrop for Tori Sampson’s play Cadillac Crew. Cadillac Crew will be presented at Hickory Community Theatre’s Jeffers Theatre from February 17 through March 4. Tickets for this production are $16 for adults and $10 for youth and students. Tickets may be purchased online at https://www.hickorytheatre.org/cadilliaccrew or by calling 828-328-2283.

Registration is not required for this event. For more information, please call 828-304-0500 or visit us online at https://www.hickorync.gov/calendar/events/category/library/.
