Hickory Fire Captain Nick Reese retires

Hickory Fire Captain Nick Reese is retiring after 25 years of service. He began his firefighting career on June 28, 1999. Reese moved through the ranks and was promoted to Fire Apparatus Operator in January 2005 and to his current promotion as Captain in November 2011. 

Captain Reese obtained multiple certifications during his career. He completed the Operations Level Hazardous Materials course and completed training as a NC State Certified Firefighter Level II. He recently received the Advance Firefighter Certificate. He obtained his certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in November 2000, and during his career, he has been the recipient to three Life Save Citations. In November 2004, he was certified as a Level II Fire Service Instructor though the North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission. In 2014, he became certified as a Fire and Life Safety Educator. Along with the training required by the fire department, in April 2005, Reese was certified as a Level I Fire Inspector through the North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board. In 2011, he was certified in Technical Rescue. Reese is certified by the North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission as Fire Officer Levels 1-3. He also has completed training and is certified as NC Technical Rescuer in the areas of Vehicle Machinery Rescue, Ropes, Confined Space, and Water Rescue.    

Reese is a graduate of Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing.   

He plans on starting a new career with Atrium Health. He and his wife, Maria, have two children, Noah and Sophia.
