Hickory Fire responds to building struck by a vehicle

Today at approximately 9:21 a.m., Hickory Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle that had struck a business at 126 N. Center Street, Medical Center Pharmacy. On arrival, firefighters found a passenger vehicle had struck the building causing significant structural damage. As a result, two businesses were evacuated during the incident. No injuries were reported. Hickory firefighters secured the structure with temporary support columns until repairs could be made. The first floor was rendered safe for use by business employees upon completion. 

Hickory Fire initially responded with two engines, one ladder, one heavy rescue unit, and one command vehicle. Upon discovering the situation, additional units responded including a Special Operations Unit, command vehicle, and support staff. Catawba County EMS, Hickory Police, and Catawba County Building Services also responded.
