Hickory Fire responds to structure fire on First Avenue SW

At approximately 6:17 a.m. Friday, Hickory firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire located in the area of 1349 1st Ave SW. On arrival at 6:21 a.m., firefighters reported large amounts of fire and smoke coming from the structure located at 1420 1st Ave SW. Firefighters quickly searched the building and then began efforts to extinguish the fire. With concerns of possible roof collapse and safety concerns, firefighters decided to extinguish the fire while outside of the structure.   

Hickory Fire Department responded with two engines, one ladder, rescue truck, and  two command units. Agencies also assisting with the incident include Catawba County EMS, Hickory Police, Hickory Public Utilities, and the Office of the State Fire Marshal Investigation team. 

Hickory Fire Investigators responded to the incident. The fire is still under investigation.
