Hickory Police investigate traffic crash

Two men died in a single-vehicle traffic crash on Sunday, October 29, in Hickory.

A Dodge Challenger, driven by James Sigmon, was travelling near the 600 block on 14th Street SW around 2:20 a.m. when it ran off the road, collided with a tree, and then caught fire. The Hickory Fire Department responded to the crash and extinguished the fire.

Sigmon, 27, of Hickory, was pronounced dead on scene. A passenger, Jared Turpin, 26, of Hickory, was transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center and pronounced deceased a short time later.

Hickory Police is investigating to determine the cause of the crash. Excessive speed was a factor. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hickory Police Department at 828-328-5551.
