HPD makes skills games arrest

The owner of Lucky 3 Food Mart in Hickory was charged on Wednesday, May 4, for operating illegal gaming machines.

Hickory Police Investigators conducted an undercover investigation at the business after receiving complaints and due to a significant number of calls for police service at or near the business.

The owner, Rashad Yahya Nasher, 47, of Hickory, was charged with a felony due to the fact that there were more than five illegal gaming machines in operation at the time of the investigation. Nasher was given a $2,500 unsecured bond.

Investigators seized over $25,000 in cash, electronic gaming equipment, and two firearms from the business.

HPD encourages anyone to call and report locations within the city where illegal gaming machines are being operated. Any electronic gaming machine that pays cash money or anything of value more than $10 is considered a slot machine and is illegal under North Carolina law.
