Live Christmas tree recycling

Wondering what to do with your live Christmas tree after the holidays?

For City of Hickory residents, Christmas trees and other natural decorations can be disposed of through the City's normal yard waste service. All lights, ornaments, tinsel, decorations, tree stands, and any metal items must be removed before placing them at the curb. City crews will pick them up on your regular collection day. The trees will be ground up and made into mulch that will be available for purchase in the spring.

For those living outside of the Hickory City Limits and who do not subscribe to the City of Hickory for their waste and recycling services, Christmas trees and other natural decorations will be accepted at all five Catawba County Solid Waste Convenience Centers through January 19, 2024. Christmas trees are always accepted at Catawba County's Blackburn Landfill. Check the Catawba County website for locations and operating hours.

Residents who have curbside collection service with Republic Services may put their used Christmas tree out with their garbage on their curbside collection day. Trees will be picked up by a separate Republic Services truck.
