Meet the Author

Hickory Public Library is grateful to have the following events throughout September that give our community the opportunity to hear from area authors.  We encourage you to take part in these various events that will be full of great insights and real-world examples of how to share compelling stories.

Lyrics of a Chrysalis: Poetry and Process with Tracy Hawkins
Saturday | September 16 | 2 p.m.
Patrick Beaver Memorial Library

Adult - Local author Tracy Hawkins will host a poetry reading from her book Lyrics from a Chrysalis on the side lawn of the Patrick Beaver Memorial Library. Please bring a chair or a blanket to sit on. In the event of rain, the program will be moved into the library meeting room. Hawkins was determined to find and become her authentic self. Writing this book of poetry led her on journey of healing and transformation. She found poetry to be a therapeutic process to mend her mind and heart, balance her energy towards wholeness, and embrace self-love. Lyrics from a Chrysalis refers to the transformational journey Hawkins experienced while writing this book as she unfolded her wings into a conscious state of awareness and newness. Hawkins was born August 23, 1971, raised in Gary, Indiana, and she moved to Hickory in 2007. She is a mother to six daughters and one granddaughter and loves to spend time in her garden where she feels the most connected to the earth. No registration is required.

Wednesday | September 20 | 6 p.m.
Ridgeview Branch Library

All ages - Have you ever wondered…What does it feel like to ride the runners behind a team of dogs, steering a loaded sled through mountainous terrain, crossing the vast Alaskan tundra, hugging the shoreline of the great Bering Sea? What does it take to care for a team of Alaskan huskies? Could my dog be a sled dog, too? Musher, Karen Land, will answer these questions and more when she and Noggin, the Alaskan husky, visit the library!
