Hickory firefighters extinguish house fire

At approximately 16:55 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Hickory firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire located in the area of 534 25th Ave NW. On arrival, firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the split-level residence. Firefighters confirmed occupants were out of the burning residence and then worked to contain the fire. The fire was reported controlled at 17:37.  

Hickory Fire Department responded with three engines, one ladder, one rescue truck, and two command units. Catawba County EMS and the Red Cross also responded to the incident.    

No human injuries were reported, but a couple of pets did not survive the fire. Damages to the house were considered major. Catawba County Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the incident and determined the fire cause to be accidental.
