Polar Plunge event raises over $10,000 for Special Olympics

The Hickory Police Department (HPD) partnered with Hickory Foundation YMCA to raise a total of $10,345 for Special Olympics North Carolina during Polar Plunge 2023.

Forty-seven participants took the plunge into the cold water including Special Olympic Athletes, HPD officers, deputies from the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, members of the YMCA, the Hickory Elks Lodge, and others members of the community.

This was the 17th Polar Plunge held by the Hickory Police Department in support of the Special Olympics. Officers are also regular participants in the Torch Run as well as other local events.

All donations went to support Special Olympics programs and athletes.
